Re: HSPs, What's the Most Fulfilling Job You Ever Had?
Thu, February 14, 2008 - 11:54 AMI think consistency is good for HSP, so anything with a lot of interruptions, drama, or volatility would not be that comfortable.
My most fulfilling job was working as a camp counselor where I got to choose how I wanted to do my job and I had little supervision from my superiors. I also found it to be interesting, exciting, and fun everyday.

Sun, February 24, 2008 - 12:16 PMThe jobs I've enjoyed have allowed me to work alongside others, but each have our own independent tasks to do. I think that being a nurse would be overwhelming. Emotionally, physically and mentally. -

Wed, March 5, 2008 - 9:39 PMI am an acupuncturist in a private practice working in a healing center with other practitioners. I think there is a beauty in using the gifts of HSP, yes it can be challenging...and as long as we have to deal with the challenges of daily life and being highly sensitive, why not put it to good use? If you can get through nursing school then there can be options of the type of nursing that you can do, it does not have to be an ER room full of activation....it could even be in areas that have a calm environment. -

Re: HSPs, What's the Most Fulfilling Job You Ever Had?
Thu, July 30, 2009 - 10:44 PMI have been a private music teacher for 6 years and it is the best job i have ever had. working for myself is the best thing for me period. I love teaching because I feel like I am using my empath skills and I am making a difference. I worked as a social worker for 4 years and it was the most draining 4 years of my life. the thing is that i was really good at it. i was totally unaware of HSPs or empaths back then, so I had no idea that i was being drained. i'm glad to see this discussion. i always wonder if i am "supposed" to be using my skills in a more "healing" profession. I went through massage school but it just felt too risky to get that close to so many people's energy. it didn't feel right for me. i think working one on one with kids is the best way for me to be right now. the truth is that as an HSP you will be a GREAT nurse. you just have to figure out if you can handle it emotionally and physically.

Re: HSPs, What's the Most Fulfilling Job You Ever Had?
Thu, July 30, 2009 - 11:24 PMMy best job was at a comics & games store; I got to deal
with geeks like me all day long, and people appreciated
my innane trivia - found it valuable, even.
As far as where you should head, I think it's highly situational;
either could be a good fit for you, in the right circumstance.
IT can be a great job fro HSPs, in the right environ, but it can also
be a job where you have to deal with a difficult person as a manager.
I worked IT for many, many years. Some were really great jobs,
some had difficult people as managers, and made what could have been
an otherwise nice job very difficult to cope with
Nursing could be the same way, in the right environ,
you would'nt have to worry about getting "drained";
but you might have to try more than one position to find your niche.
Nurses are everywhere, social work, children-centric positions,
postions in anaylisis clinics (pretty low key envoirn, normally)
(anaylisis clinics do testing of physical health, test blood, urine,
blood pressure, response, etc) positions in psych wards,
(not every psych ward is a volatile environ; there are many
"recovery" centers where things are purposely kept calm
and low key) foster homes, you could do paitient monitoring
as a regular nurse (there'd be some "dues" to pay first,
but a pretty calm environ normally)....
Then there's alternative medicine type things, usually pretty low-key,
nurturing, calm environs. chiropractic, nutritional, herbal....
There's alot of possibilities out there for you, and whatever you choose,
you could certainly work out the right environ for you - might take
a few tries, but you would have the skills and support you needed. -

Fri, July 31, 2009 - 8:58 AMoh yeah private nursing! i forgot about that ray. i know if i were going into nursing that would be my end goal. but of course every nurse has to go through all that hospital experience first.
